Paley Festival 2009 Adds 90210, Desperate Housewives, Dollhouse, Swingtown

Back in January, I wrote about Fox’s Fringe and HBO’s True Blood scoring coveted spots in the lineup of television series making an appearance at the Paley Center for Media’s popular annual Paley Festival.
Now comes news that the female-led shows will be joined by their fellow Grrl TV programs 90210, Desperate Housewives, Dollhouse, and Swingtown during PaleyFest 09. And, yes — I just wrote Swingtown, so how about a big “Woot!”
Additional shows scheduled to participate include the canceled ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies, the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory and hit rookie crime procedural The Mentalist, the FX sitcom …read more

‘Fringe’ and ‘True Blood’ Heading to Paley Festival

Fringe and True Blood got Paley!
It won’t officially announce the complete lineup until February 18, but Variety reports the Paley Center for Media has already selected two definite shoo-ins for the upcoming crowd-pleasing Paley Festival: Fox’s Anna Torv-led Fringe and HBO’s Golden Globe-winning Anna Paquin-led True Blood.
Besides intelligent and talented female stars with the same first name, the rookie shows have another thing in common: they’ve each done a fantastic job building a large, loyal fan base, which is why both were quickly picked up for full first seasons.
The popular Paley Festival allows cast and crew members of television series …read more

TNT Gives ‘Saving Grace’ a Third Season

This was a no-brainer in so many ways — Oscar winner Holly Hunter, for starters — but still the network has to make it official before Saving Grace fans can properly jump for joy.
The time to have at it is right about now, then, because TNT has done the deed and renewed the series for a third season of fifteen episodes. In case you’re counting, that order equals the number of episodes in the current second season, which is on hiatus right now until early 2009.
What excellent news for us Grrl TV watchers. And if you’ve been enjoying …read more

Linda Stasi’s Bloody Good Review of ‘True Blood’

Linda Stasi’s Bloody Good Review of ‘True Blood’

New York Post TV columnist Linda Stasi, a regular read for me, recently wrote a review of HBO’s new Southern-fried vampire series True Blood that is simply too funny, not to mention quite unflattering. She gives the show a rating of 1.5 stars out of a possible 4 and explains why with “biting” observations like:

What would happen if vampires no longer needed to suck human blood because they could pop into the 7/11 and buy a six pack of synthetic blood whenever they were Jonesing for a bite?
If HBO’s new vampire show is any indication, there would still be …read more
