Drop Dead Diva: New Lifetime Summer Series

Drop Dead Diva: New Lifetime Summer Series

Lifetime has a brand-new show coming up this summer called Drop Dead Diva, which is currently scheduled to premiere on Sunday, July 12, at 9pm ET, immediately before the network’s smash hit Army Wives.
An hourlong dramedy, the series focuses on beautiful, vapid wannabe model Deb (Brooke D’Orsay). After she dies in a car accident, Deb suddenly finds herself in front of Heaven’s gatekeeper Fred, who’s convinced she’s nothing more than a self-centered “zero.”
Deb protests, of course, and then tries to persuade Fred to return her to her shallow existence. Something goes wrong, however, and Deb winds up in the body …read more

‘The View’s Sherri Shepherd Has a Lifetime Comedy

‘The View’s Sherri Shepherd Has a Lifetime Comedy

Following on the heels of last year’s 2008–2009 newbie Rita Rocks, Lifetime is adding another original half-hour sitcom to its women-centric lineup. The latest comedy stars The View co-host Sherri Shepherd, and it’s accurately called Sherri.
According to Variety, Shepherd will play a single mother who also happens to be an actress and a paralegal. Shepherd has quite a bit of experience in the second role since she has a recurring gig on NBC’s critically acclaimed sitcom 30 Rock, where she portrays the wife of Tracy Morgan’s character. Shepherd will reportedly continue her television work on that series …read more

Meet Two Stars of ‘100 Questions’: Video Interviews

Meet Two Stars of ‘100 Questions’: Video Interviews

Well, at least nobody can complain that NBC isn’t trying to promote its latest slate of (primarily poor) pickups.
To enhance the earlier post outlining the network’s new Friends-wannabe comedy 100 Questions, follow the jump for video interviews with lead cast members Sophie Winkleman, who plays looking-for-love central character Charlotte Payne, and Christopher Moynihan, who portrays Charlotte’s best bud Mike.
Since Moynihan is the series creator, he provides some details about how he conceived the sitcom. My guess? He watched lots and lots of CBS’ The Ex List and, of course, Friends.

We’ve already introduced the upcoming NBC nurse drama Mercy, so now let’s move on to the newly picked-up NBC sitcom 100 Questions, which I’ve heard in several places is supposed to be the next Friends. Please excuse me a moment while I yawn.

Okay, I’m back and all refreshed.
According to NBC, here’s what viewers can expect: 100 Questions provides hilarious answers to 100 questions about love. Charlotte Payne (Sophie Winkleman, Peep Show) is looking for love and …read more

NBC held its so-called “Infront” presentation on Monday, May 4, during which it revealed four new dramas and two new comedies that will receive a spot on the network’s 2009–2010 roster. Of the six series, only two are relevant to Grrl TV: the nurse drama Mercy and the love-life sitcom 100 Questions.
Let’s take a look at Mercy …read more

TNT Jada Pinkett Smith Drama Adds ‘Alias’ Alum Michael Vartan

TNT Jada Pinkett Smith Drama Adds ‘Alias’ Alum Michael Vartan

Here’s some excellent casting news for a series we haven’t even seen yet. Back in September, I wrote about Jada Pinkett Smith’s potential TNT original drama Time Heals, which has since become a reality. Now comes news that Alias and Big Shots alum Michael Vartan, a perennial fan favorite, has joined the cast of the series as a replacement for Jeffrey Nordling (Dirt, 24), who played the same role in the pilot.
Time Heals stars Smith as Christina Hawthorne, a recent widow, single mother of a difficult teenager daughter, and passionate nurse who has a big conscious and lots …read more

Lifetime Picks Up ‘Drop Dead Diva’

Lifetime Picks Up ‘Drop Dead Diva’

I like the sound of this new show, folks.
Although originally developed for Fox, the hourlong dramedy Drop Dead Diva has just been picked up for twelve episodes by Lifetime instead. If you know anything about Fox’s shaky history keeping certain kinds of series going for more than a handful of episodes, then you probably understand why this development is a very, very good thing.
The show was created by Josh Berman, a writer for familiar names like Bones and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, as well as lesser known flashes in the pan like Vanished and Killer Instinct. It stars …read more

Fox Developing ‘Bitches’

Fox Developing ‘Bitches’

And you can take that title any way you want…
No, seriously — if you haven’t yet heard the big buzz about Fox’s latest TV series in the works called Bitches, let me enlighten you: The network is placing some of its money on the hope that viewers will want to watch a “quirky urban fairy tale,” featuring four actresses as friends in New York who “moon”-light as werewolves.
Really. I guess it’s good, then, that this prospective series is a dramedy because I can see so much fun being had with that awkward-sounding premise.
The potential masterpiece is brought to the …read more

‘Gilmore’ Girl Lauren Graham Heading Back to TV

Now, here’s a great piece of breaking news for fans of Gilmore Girls still jonesing for the ultra popular series and/or its stars since the show ended back in 2007. Variety reports tonight that Gilmore #1, also known as fabulous actress Lauren Graham, has landed a deal to both helm and produce a currently untitled half-hour comedy on ABC. Woot!
Graham will play one of those self-help types who like to tell everybody else how to live a better life when their own isn’t so great. Her clientele is other women, but she’ll have to learn how to …read more

Amber Tamblyn and ‘The Unusuals’ Get a Premiere Date

Amber Tamblyn and ‘The Unusuals’ Get a Premiere Date

Yay! Just this week, ABC released the premiere date for one of the new shows I’m most looking forward to next year: Joan of Arcadia and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants alum Amber Tamblyn’s twisted cop dramedy The Unusuals.
Look out for Amber and her fabulous co-stars Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, Josh Close, Monique Gabriela Curnen, Kai Lennox, Terry Kinney, and Adam Goldberg to make their series debut on Wednesday, April 8, at 10pm EST.
Yes, that’s quite a bit of time from now, but it still helps to have the date set (almost) in stone. I’ve got high expectations for …read more
