Scenes from ‘Samurai Girl’

On Sunday, ABC Family’s three-night Samurai Girl event concluded. All in all, the miniseries was pretty good weekend TV, and it ended in such a way that I wouldn’t mind seeing a second run, similar to what the network did with Fallen.
Heck, I wouldn’t even mind a full-blown series since the characters were certainly entertaining, especially Otto (Kyle Labine), Cheryl (Saige Thompson), and — surprisingly — Severin (Steven Brand). The plot was intriguing enough, too. So, if we’re lucky, maybe ABC Family will adapt another one of Carrie Asai’s books.
Now that it’s over, take a trip back …read more

Stacy Keibler Arrives on ‘Samurai Girl’

Part Two of ABC Family’s Samurai Girl miniseries, “Book of the Heart,” aired tonight, and one of the most significant plot developments was the arrival of Stacy Keibler’s character Karen, who — surprise! — is so not what she initially seems.
True, we didn’t get to see all that much from her in the latest installment until the very end, but Stacey has some pretty “combative” scenes coming up in the finale, Sunday night’s “Book of the Shadow.” Let’s just say it will be showdown time — with very big and extremely sharp knives.

Advance Review: The ‘Samurai Girl’ Saga Begins

Tonight is the night that ABC Family premieres the first of three installments in the Samurai Girl miniseries.
We begin with Parts One and Two of the “Book of the Sword” at 8pm EST, followed by “Book of the Heart” on Saturday and “Book of the Shadow” on Sunday, both two-parters that also air from 8pm to 10pm.
I had the opportunity to preview “Book of the Sword,” and although it indicates Samurai Girl has nowhere near the creative or visual appeal of its hugely successful predecessor Fallen, the miniseries will still probably entertain its intended audience of primarily female teenagers.
The plot, …read more

In the extended trailer following the jump, we learn a bit about the miniseries’ major plotlines. Heaven (Jamie Chung) is at her arranged wedding, then a fight breaks out and her brother is killed.
With a little help from friends, she next finds the one person who can train her well enough to get to the bottom of the problems threatening to destroy her life. That big sword should come in handy, even if the cause of the turmoil appears to be daddy.

I’ve already said how psyched I am to see ABC Family’s upcoming six-part miniseries Samurai Girl when it premieres on September 5. So, you can imagine how I almost fainted on the spot when, out of the blue, I received a press kit and screener for the television event earlier this week.
I feel so loved. And I’m only exaggerating a little bit about the passing out part — I was and still am that thrilled.
Something else I’ve received is a slew of photos from the special. Follow the jump to meet the cast for now, and I …read more
