Shirley MacLaine Channels Coco Chanel
The title is simply her name, and the tagline is the pithy observation "She conquered with style." You bet.
Tonight at 8pm EST, Lifetime will present the network’s latest original movie, Coco Chanel. The three-hour rags-to-riches biopic chronicles the life of legendary French haute-couturier pioneer Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, creator of the ubiquitous fragrance Chanel No. 5, not to mention an immediately recognizable signature fashion style.
According to the official synopsis, the story begins in 1954, when France’s Chanel attempts to put personal upheaval behind her and stage a comeback, which utterly fails. From there, we learn about other crises and accomplishments in her personal and professional life that directly impacted her creative legacy.
Oscar winner Shirley MacLaine (Terms of Endearment) leads the cast, which also includes Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) as Marc Bouchier, Chanel’s confidante and business associate, and Barbora Bobulova (In Love and War) as the younger Chanel. I’d watch for McDowell alone, but MacLaine certainly sweetens the deal, as always.
