Mea Culpa - Sunday ‘Fringe’ Encore Packed with Extras
In the Pilot Photo Preview posted earlier this week, I erroneously claimed that the two-hour encore of Fringe airing this Sunday, September 14, from 8pm to 10pm EST wouldn’t have anything new except more and longer commercial breaks. My bad because, boy, was I wrong.
Fox issued a press release after my post indicating just what will be included in the extra minutes extending the originally 95-minute pilot episode with limited commercial interruptions to two hours. Here’s what viewers can look forward to:
Before Fringe repeats, there will be an exclusive first look at an extended scene from the upcoming feature film The Day the Earth Stood Still, a remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic that stars Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Jaden Smith, John Cleese, Jon Hamm, Kyle Chandler, and Kathy Bates. What a cast. The movie is currently scheduled for U.S. release on December 12, 2008.
Next up is a preview of November’s two-hour 24 presentation called 24: REDEMPTION (all caps, just like that), during which Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer goes up against an international threat as a new U.S. president prepares to be sworn into office. New 24 cast members Cherry Jones, Robert Carlyle (love him), Gil Bellows, and Jon Voight will all appear in the November event filmed in South Africa. I’ve no idea if the same is true for Sunday’s preview.
Then we have another look at Fringe’s spectacular pilot episode, I assume still with limited commercial interruption considering all of the goodies tacked on at the beginning and end of the broadcast.
And, finally, if you’re able to catch your breath following all that excitement, the two-hour period will end with a sneak peek at the first four minutes of Fringe’s second episode, "The Same Old Story." It has an equally spooky storyline, something I think we Fringe fanatics are going to learn to expect.
