‘Lipstick Jungle’ Cancellation: Not So Fast

by Chandra on November 18th, 2008

Lipstick JungleRemember how so many TV news outlets, including this one, reported last week that NBC had axed Lipstick Jungle? Well, it turns out we were wrong.

According to the NY Times and Lipstick star Brooke Shields herself, the series lives on, and the cast and crew can thank a significant uptick in viewership last Friday, as well as strident protests from a vocal group of loyal fans. I’m guessing the latter also made more than a few unaware followers realize the show had actually moved to a new night, not disappeared all together.

Says Shields: “They’re not breaking down the sets. We’re still working. We still have more to do, so it’s erroneously presented that we’ve been canceled, thank God.”

“Our bosses are saying, ‘You’re not canceled, don’t worry. We’re just trying to figure out how to make this make sense.”

As a result of the show’s good fortune, NBC Entertainment co-chairman Ben Silverman assures viewers that all thirteen previously ordered episodes of Lipstick will be made. Better yet, if the lucky streak continues and the number of watchers continues to increase, supporters could possibly get the chance to see even more episodes of the series this season.

Nice work, fans. Pat yourselves on the back! Nevertheless, don’t forget to keep tuning in to the show since “no cancellation right now” is a far cry from “a full season is virtually guaranteed.”
