Life Is Good: ‘Sarah Connor’ Gets Full Season
I repeat: Following the news exactly one week ago that Fox had given showrunners the go-ahead to produce two more scripts for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the network has now made the supremely wise decision to pick up the allegedly endangered sophomore sci-fi series for a full 22-episode season.
Whoo-hoo! Do we Sarah Connor fans have reason to rejoice or what?!
Apparently, for once, the Fox Powers That Be listened to faithful viewers and others who realized that if there’s one show currently on television that deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to ratings, it’s Terminator. Stuck in a horrendous Monday-night at 8pm EST time slot, with daunting competition airing simultaneously on several other networks, the series struggled to achieve decent ratings.
Thankfully, a little extra push in the promotional department, as well as considerable cancellation fear circulating around the Web, helped the series match the Nielsen numbers of NBC’s Chuck on October 6, its most recent fresh episode. That night, Terminator attracted 5.7 million viewers overall and posted a 2.3 rating among those aged 18 to 49. Now we can all settle down a bit and hope the series somehow gets a better time slot and/or bigger following in the near future to maximize this great back-nine news.
Incidentally, with the latest development, Fox has been especially good to Grrl TV watchers this fall season. Fans of women who rock on the small screen now have two female-led series to enjoy on the network: Sarah Connor, of course, and the paranormal rookie Fringe, which received early full-season honors at the beginning of October.
So, what was that I said way back when rumors about Terminator’s impending demise first started burning up the Internets? Oh, yeah — ‘Terminator’ Cancellation: Much Ado About Nothing?. Good to see in hindsight that I was right!
For speculation on why Fox made this largely unexpected decision, check out Hollywood Reporter senior reporter James Hibberd’s post that, I believe, broke the news on Friday.
