Laurie Metcalf Headlines New Dramedy ‘Easy Money’
A three-time Emmy winner for her work on the long-running sitcom Roseanne, Laurie Metcalf is returning to the tube tonight with the new CW dramedy Easy Money.
The series is from the producers of The Sopranos and Northern Exposure, and it concerns a group of loan sharks whose matriarch is Metcalf’s Bobette Buffkin, a businesswoman in charge of the quick-cash company Prestige Payday Loans. During the premiere episode “DNA,” Buffkin’s business is threatened by rival newcomers, prompting her middle son Morgan (Jeff Hephner of The O.C.) to try to keep things calm.
Morgan has bigger concerns, however, such as his curiosity about a childhood secret and his interest in graduate student Julia Miller (Marsha Thomason of Lost). Will Morgan ever be able to escape life as a hoodlum in the Southwest and start a new one with Julia?
I haven’t the faintest idea because I barely even knew this show was coming on this fall. The CW definitely gets my vote as the network with the lousiest approach to promoting new series: Don’t promote them at all unless they star at least three people who play characters under the age of eighteen. Nice — what a way to make your show’s cast members feel loved.
At least the network did bother to upload a couple of trailers to YouTube, which you can find after the jump.
Easy Money airs Sundays on The CW at 9pm EST.
