Jennifer Hudson of ‘Sex and the City’ Speaks

by Chandra on May 29th, 2008

Jennifer Hudson
Entertainment Weekly has a nice interview with Sex and the City newcomer Jennifer Hudson. The American Idol alum and Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, and SAG winner landed a role in the big-screen flick, which opens in U.S. theaters tomorrow, playing Louise, the young assistant of Sarah Jessica Parker’s iconic character Carrie Bradshaw.

Hudson discusses a number of issues in the interview, including whether or not she was a fan of the original HBO series (the 26-year-old hadn’t seen more than a couple of episodes prior to reading the script for the movie version), how she handled the negative gossip about her Oscar outfit (she’d just won an Academy Award, dammit, so she knew better than to get all worked up about something that relatively minor), and why it has required four years since American Idol to complete her forthcoming debut album (she wasn’t expecting her acting career to take off as quickly and fabulously as it has).

Hudson has two more feature films coming out this year — The Secret Life of Bees with Dakota Fanning and Winged Creatures with fellow Oscar winner Forest Whitaker and Dakota Fanning again — as well as her self-titled debut album in September and the single “Spotlight” from the recently released Sex and the City movie soundtrack.
