Jaime Murray Stars in New Series ‘Valentine’
Tonight is a big night for The CW because the network is rolling out two new series for viewers, neither of which — shocker! — stars a gaggle of teenagers. And here I was starting to think that wasn’t possible.
First up at 8pm EST is the series with a love twist called Valentine. All the press on this one is calling it a drama, but the official description makes it sound more like a dramedy to me. Either way, I’m expecting the show to be kooky or at least slightly comical.
How can it not be with a premise that revolves around a family of Greek gods — yes, gods — from Mount Olympus who live among modern-day humans in Los Angeles with the primary purpose of helping “ensure that true love blossoms on Earth”? There has to be a joke or two in there somewhere, right? I’m laughing just writing the description (and thinking, “You’ve got to be kidding me — this made it to TV?).
And, if that’s not funny, here’s the cast:
Stunning English actress and former Hustle and Dexter co-star Jaime Murray plays Grace Valentine, aka Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love.
Mad Men’s Kristoffer Polaha is Danny Valentine, better known to mythology nuts as Eros, the God of Erotic Love.
The O.C.’s Autumn Reeser is onboard as Phoebe Valentine, who also goes by the lengthy moniker the Goddess of the Oracle at Delphi.
And, finally, Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’s Robert Baker gets to kick butt (I hope) as Leo Valentine, or preferably (I’m sure) Hercules.
The series is from producer Kevin Murphy, who also had a hand in Desperate Housewives and Reaper, yet more proof that Valentine is a dramedy and one with potential to succeed (especially if it were on any other network besides The CW), despite the wacky description and characters.
Continue below to take a look at a couple of brief trailers and one longer preview for the series that could help you make an informed decision about whether you can withstand all of the absurdity. I’ll be shocked if I don’t get a kick out of Valentine since I’m going in expecting it to be insanely silly; it can’t hurt too much in very small doses while it lasts.
Valentine airs Sundays on The CW at 8pm EST.
