Grrl TV - Shows with Women in Mind

‘Fringe’ Follows ‘90210’ with Full Season Pickup

by Chandra on October 2nd, 2008

Fringe

Hooray for Grrl TV!

Just nine days after The CW announced that its lightweight freshman drama 90210 has been picked up for a full season, Fox has done the same for the heavyweight J.J. Abrams paranormal/sci-fi thriller Fringe.

Both shows have had nine episodes (nine must be a magic number, huh?) added to their respective network’s original order of thirteen installments, bringing them to a traditional 22-episode full season.

I’m happy for the cast and crew of each show: 90210 gives me a little mindless fluff to enjoy for an hour each week, while Fringe, which requires substantially more brain power, tickles my suspense bone quite adequately. So far, these are the only series to receive a full-season order this fall.

I was really excited to hear it got picked up, I was a little worried about it.

I think “True Blood” got the first pick-up from HBO. They actually renewed it for Season 2 as well, which is just crazy! But good :)

As soon as the ratings for the first two weeks came out, I stopped being concerned about whether or not Fringe would get a full season. This news is just confirming what I pretty much took as a given.

And True Blood? Technically, that’s true. I’m one of those purists, though, who instinctively distinguish between broadcast TV, basic cable, and premium cable.

I’m just glad all three shows starring women are having such an immediate impact; that’s definitely encouraging.
