Heads up, Starbuck, fans: Battlestar Galactica veteran Katee Sackhoff makes a guest-star appearance on tonight’s episode of Law & Order called “Knock Off.” We’ll take what we can get of her until BSG returns to complete its stellar run on January 11 (the special “BSG: Essential Elements”) and January 16 (the fourth and final midseason premiere “Sometimes a Great Notion”).

Law & Order’s latest case revolves around — surprise! — a murder, as well as a potentially corrupt sheriff played by guest star Clancy Brown, whom sci-fi and horror lovers also adore. The victim is a tourist from upstate New York, which prompts Detectives Bernard (Anthony Anderson) and Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) to take a trip to his hometown.

Sensitive Lupo gets a bit too caught up in the investigation, while Sackhoff plays Dianne Cary, a prime murder suspect who’s far from a shrinking violet. Appropriately typical casting for the actress.

A two-scene, two-minute sneak peek at Sackhoff’s visit to the long-running series follows the jump. The first segment shows her and the detectives getting rough with each other, and the second features a little Q&A with the woman who makes all female L&O watchers proud, S. Epatha Merkerson’s Lieutenant Anita Van Buren, now in her 16th season as The Boss on the 19-season show. Enjoy!

According to reports, the actress is thisclose to putting the finishing touches on the paperwork for a role in NBC’s upcoming James Purefoy (Rome) drama The Philanthropist. Almost as sweet, her character would be the wife of one Philip Maidstone, the character played by suave Law & Order alum Jesse L. Martin. Nice! I think I’m more excited about having him back on the small screen each week than Campbell.

Filming in England and South Africa (lucky cast and crew!) for that special global flare, The Philanthropist stars English actor Purefoy as Teddy Rist, a billionaire who likes to play hard and live excessively, until his only child dies tragically.

Afterwards, Rist devotes his life to traveling around the world to help all kinds of people in need, often while subjecting himself to extremely dangerous circumstances. NBC describes the wealthy do-gooder with souped-up, tough descriptions like “vigilante philanthropist” and “renegade billionaire,” and Campbell’s character, who leads a charitable foundation, will interact with him during his unusual cases.

Interesting premise. I only have one question, though: How do I get a cool job like that, meaning “renegade vigilante philanthropist billionaire”?

Dismal, soul-crushing Friday-night death slot aside, I’m still looking forward to Joss Whedon’s midseason Eliza Dushku vehicle Dollhouse, which premieres next year at 9pm EST on February 13. I hope the series defies fate and somehow manages to score decent ratings, along with its Grrl Power companion The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the show that will precede it at 8pm and go head-to-head with CBS’ paranormal hit Ghost Whisperer.

In advance of the big launch date, take a few minutes to get familiar with the Dollhouse cast in the photos following the jump. They’re a good-looking bunch for the most part, no? Perhaps that, some good writing, obvious talent, and a lot of luck will help strengthen the show’s Nielsen numbers and current gloomy outlook. Fingers crossed till they ache.

Bummer! So, enjoy the latest paranormal adventure while you can, although repeats will air occasionally during the lull.

The central perplexing plotline this time around involves a string of bank robberies, hence the title, which also refers to the additional meaning of being out of harm’s way.

Of course, Team Olivia quickly determines the physics-defying thefts are related to the one and only Walter — the doc certainly got around in his heyday! — and the criminals’ search for something he possesses is eventually only eclipsed by the ambush of Walter, Olivia, or Peter. After last week’s brief introduction to Peter’s dangerous Bostonian dilemma, my money is on the eccentric doctor’s son.

In case you’ve been wondering — and what fan hasn’t been since learning the truth about Cameron? — viewers finally find out what John’s pretend sister does at night on “Self Made Man,” since we all know whe never sleeps. And the equally interesting subplot adds even more intrigue when a machine is sent back in time to the wrong point, which has a marked effect on the course of history.

For two weeks, starting on Monday, December 1, new episodes of Privileged will premiere after Gossip Girl on Mondays at 9pm EST, and encores will follow the next night in the show’s regular Tuesday at 9pm time slot.

First up on Monday is “All About Love, Actually.” Laurel Limoges gets her game on when she re-hooks up with an old lover, played by Michael Nouri of Flashdance and The Hidden goodness. Meanwhile, Megan deals with her new official boyfriend Will’s possible six-month trip to Brazil, in addition to Sage’s revelation that Rose intends to cheat on a final exam.

A brief preview for the episode follows the jump. Next, on December 8, is “All About the Ripple Effect,” which features one of my favorite television actresses of all time: NYPD Blue’s dazzling Sharon Lawrence. She plays Megan’s estranged mother Shelby, who abandoned her family when Megan was just a girl, and she will no doubt rock the role, as usual.

The minute the casting news spread, I knew McDonough was up to the challenge and would bring some dependable chills to the storylines. He hasn’t let me down once yet.

During this Sunday’s fresh episode “Me and My Town,” viewers will learn even more about Dave’s shady background (I hope) following the recent scary club fire that got him branded a hero (yeah, right!).

Other characters will have to cope with the aftermath of the tragedy, as well, including Lynette and Tom, who must join forces to protect their son Porter now that the big secret about his scandalous affair with his best friend’s mother is no longer under wraps; Susan, who suffers a significant loss; and Gaby and Carlos, the recipients of actual good news.

After a Massive Dynamic employee takes a flying leap out of a window because he believes butterflies are on the attack, Olivia decides it’s time for another trip to that tank, and you know which one I’m talking about if you watch the show.

Her reason is to finally get her allegedly dead lover and former partner John Scott out of her head once and for all. Of course, this means my favorite cast member, Mark Valley, will be making another appearance. Blair Brown is on hand, too.

In addition, much trouble is ahead for Peter when his former associates discover he’s back in Beantown.

Watching the latest video previews for “Strange Things Happen at the One Two Point,” the November 24 episode of The Sarah Connor Chronicles, I can’t believe this show was once in danger of cancellation earlier in the season. How much more intriguing and action-packed does a TV series need to be?

On this outing, guest star Stephanie Jacobsen reprises her role as Jesse, who continues to complicate already difficult situations. Meanwhile, James Ellison meets someone important, courtesy of Catherine Weaver, and Sarah finally seems to makes a breakthrough when her fascination with the three dots leads to the possible location of Andy Goode’s Turk at last.

A trailer and two sneak peeks at the episode follow the jump; I’m loving the first one with Ellison and Cameron. It’s also good to see Fox still maintaining support for the show and releasing these promos earlier for fans. Please, keep it up.
