Fall 2008 Preview: Surviving the Filthy Rich
Surviving the Filthy Rich is a CW drama about a 23-year-old Yale graduate and aspiring journalist named Megan Smith. Purely by chance, she becomes the live-in tutor for twin teenage girls in posh Palm Beach, Florida, one of whom is played by Bionic Woman alum Lucy Kate Hale (Jaime Sommers’ annoying little sister).
Ashley Newbrough plays the other, while Welcome to the Captain and Reba sitcom veteran Joanna Garcia portrays the central character Megan. The whole shebang is also based on The A-List author Zoey Dean’s book How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls.
Am I looking forward to this show? Not really. But I wouldn’t be surprised to end up turned on if it’s done well. After all, I like a guilty TV pleasure just as much as the next person, and 30 Rock’s Michael Engler did direct the pilot.
The CW is pushing this one hard, too, as demonstrated by the four preview clips available after the jump. Check them out and let me know what you think about the show’s future. Will it survive the killer pilot season this fall? Or will it wither up and die faster than you can remember which character is who?
