Estelle Getty Gets a Lifetime Tribute
Golden Girls star Estelle Getty, who played cranky Sophia Petrillo on the long-running series, passed away at the age of 84 years on Tuesday morning, July 22.
Afflicted with Lewy Body Dementia, she retired from acting around 2000, but will never be forgotten for her memorable roles as Sophia and also Tutti Bomowski from the feature film Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.
This Friday, July 25, Lifetime Television will air a five-hour marathon from noon until 5pm EST featuring ten episodes of The Golden Girls that showcase Getty’s beloved character.
Fans can even directly participate in the planning of the tribute by visiting the network’s website at myLifetime.com to vote for their favorite Getty/Sophia episodes; doing so will definitely be time well spent.
