‘Damages’ Lands William Hurt
Talk about a casting coup. When the FX legal drama Damages returns in early 2009, it will have not one, but two major movie stars in the cast. The first one is actress Glenn Close, of course, who has starred in the series since Day One.
Now, FX reports that Academy Award-winning actor William Hurt (A History of Violence, Broadcast News, Children of a Lesser God, Kiss of The Spiderwoman) will also become a regular presence during the show’s entire second season.
The network, obviously attempting to heighten curiosity, won’t reveal any details about Hurt’s role yet other than to hint he’ll play a new client of Close’s Patty Hewes who has both a professional and personal history with the shrewd attorney. Close and Hurt have a professional past together in real life, as well, having worked with one another for the first time on the Oscar-nominated 1983 feature film The Big Chill.
FX also points out how lucky the network was to acquire Hurt’s services, noting that this is his first gig on a television series. Good for them — the casting is definitely something worth bragging about! I predict we’ll hear lots more about it when the time arrives for the Damages promotional campaign to start.
