CCH Pounder’s ‘Warehouse 13’ Gets Series Order

by Chandra on September 19th, 2008

CCH PounderGood news here for fans of science-fiction television shows starring superbad women. Back in May, I wrote about The Shield star CCH Pounder getting a plum bosswoman role in the two-hour pilot for the paranormal dramedy Warehouse 13, a prospective original series from the Sci Fi Channel.

Well, “prospective” just became “forthcoming” because the basic cable network announced today that it has ordered eleven hours of the series, including the two-hour pilot already filmed. Yay!

As I wrote at the end of May, Pounder plays Mrs. Frederic, the head of a secret organization sponsored by the U.S. government who is responsible for ensuring that dangerous paranormal objects are securely stored at the facility Warehouse 13.

The regular cast is rounded out by Joanne Kelly (The Dresden Files) and Eddie McClintock (Bones) as Myka and Peter, the FBI agent partners tasked with investigating and retrieving unusual artifacts, and Saul Rubinek (Frasier) as Artie Nielsen, the Warehouse’s caretaker.

Sci Fi Channel’s synopsis of the series further explains:

After saving the life of the President, two Secret Service agents find themselves abruptly transferred to Warehouse 13 — a massive, top secret storage facility in windswept South Dakota which houses every strange artifact, mysterious relic, fantastical object and supernatural souvenir ever collected by the U.S. government. The Warehouse’s caretaker Artie (Rubinek) charges Pete (McClintock) and Myka (Kelly) with chasing down reports of supernatural and paranormal activity in search of new objects to cache at the Warehouse, as well as helping him to control the warehouse itself.

Of course, Sci Fi Channel is promoting Warehouse 13 as a series in the spirit of fun and funny Eureka, which makes sense. Since I’ve loved that summer staple from Day One, I’m getting good vibes about the newcomer, too.

Moreover, Warehouse 13 is executive produced by David Simkins of Blade: The Series and The Book of Daniel and directed by Jace Alexander of Burn Notice and Rescue Me. Sounds like a nice pedigree to me.
