Amanda Tapping Returns for ‘Stargate Atlantis’ Series Finale

Amanda Tapping Returns for ‘Stargate Atlantis’ Series Finale

If you’re a Stargate Atlantis fan, as am I, you know that former Stargate SG-1 and current Sanctuary star Amanda Tapping was a regular cast member on the show last season.
You also probably know that tonight, January 9, at 9pm EST, the SG-1 spinoff Atlantis airs its series finale, “Enemy at the Gate,” after five satisfying seasons. And, yes — talented Tapping rejoins her former castmates for the final ride of the series.
Several Atlantis movies will follow soon, but if you’re a Tapping fan, you won’t want to miss her appearance tonight. Then, make sure to stick around …read more

Sanctuary: Season Finale ‘Revelations, Part Two’

Sanctuary: Season Finale ‘Revelations, Part Two’

When we last saw our merry band of Cabal-fighting Sanctuary members, they had separated into two groups that both ended up in dire straits: Ashley and Henry ambushed by Cabal criminals at the organization’s weapons facility and Magnus, Will, Druitt, Dr. Watson, and Invisible Girl Clara (guest star Christine Chatelain) confronted with a ransacked city after their long trek to faraway Bhalasaam.
Tonight’s first-season finale, “Revelations, Part Two,” picks up right where we left off, with the seemingly defeated team members forced to come up with alternative solutions to the new problems they face, while still preventing the Cabal from getting …read more

Next on ‘Sanctuary’: Revelations, Part One

Next on ‘Sanctuary’: Revelations, Part One

Look out, Sanctuary fans, because during tonight’s “Revelations,” part one of the show’s two-episode first-season finale, abnormals go on the rampage — against humans and for seemingly no reason.
That predicament begs the question: Is the contagious outbreak of violent attacks just a huge, deadly coincidence or the result of something much more sinister, such as intentional biological warfare, for instance, perhaps at the hands of the notoriously evil Cabal?
When John Druitt (Christopher Heyerdahl) and fellow Five member Dr. James Watson (Highlander’s Peter Wingfield), Magnus’ counterpart in the United Kingdom as head of the UK Sanctuary, arrive on the scene, they …read more

Rock Out with a Friday-Night ‘Sanctuary’ Mini-Marathon

Rock Out with a Friday-Night ‘Sanctuary’ Mini-Marathon

Ooh la la! Although I’d prefer a regular new episode of Stargate Atlantis at 9pm EST — who doubts that Teyla kicks butt, while Dr. Jennifer is just sweetness through and through? — I’ll take what Sci Fi Channel has in store for viewers this Friday night instead.
In the absence of fresh Atlantis, the network is giving us four episodes in a row of Sanctuary. Best of all, the fourth one at 10pm EST is a new installment, as usual.
The evening of magnificent Magnus adventures begins at 7pm with the third episode of the season, “Fata Morgana.” …read more

‘Sanctuary’ Set for Second Season

‘Sanctuary’ Set for Second Season

Now here’s the kind of news that I like to hear: the Sci Fi Channel has wisely renewed its rookie Amanda Tapping series Sanctuary for a second season of 13 episodes. Smashing!
According to TV Guide, Mark Stern, the network’s Executive Vice President of Original Programming, enthusiastically stated that “Sci Fi will continue to trail blaze the television landscape by further exploring the many worlds of Sanctuary through its unique green screen environments. Technology and great storytelling makes Sanctuary a fantastic addition to Sci Fi’s 2009 lineup.”
I couldn’t agree more and look forward to following the new adventures of …read more

‘Sanctuary’ 1.03 Review: Three Witches

‘Sanctuary’ 1.03 Review: Three Witches

Episode: Fata MorganaOriginal Air Date: October 10, 2008
After checking out this week’s episode “Fata Morgana,” I’m liking Sci Fi Channel’s Sanctuary. It has a nice, if familiar, contrast going on between contemplative, accepting doctor Helen (Amanda Tapping) and skeptical but surprisingly quick-witted doctor Will (Robin Dunne). Maybe it’s the dour expression or his academic air, but I didn’t expect the latter character to be capable of so much deliberate humor; I thought most of the laughs would come at his expense.
It also helps in winning me over that Helen’s daughter Ashley (Emilie Ullerup) is a spunky gal who …read more

Introducing ‘Sanctuary’ for All

Introducing ‘Sanctuary’ for All

If the two-hour premiere episode “Sanctuary for All” is a reliable indication, it seems Sci Fi Channel has scored again with its new Amanda Tapping offering Sanctuary. The television series, as existing fans know, is based on the Web version of the same name.
A blend of science fiction, fantasy, suspense, and, best of all, the paranormal, Sanctuary spins a compelling web of intrigue revolving around 157-year-old scientist Dr. Helen Magnus (executive producer and star Tapping), her initially skeptical yet competent new recruit Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), and a secret world populated by so-called abnormals, mostly non-threatening creatures outside …read more

Sanctuary: Where Unique and Innovative Collide

Sanctuary: Where Unique and Innovative Collide

As I’ve said in the past, I’m really looking forward to Sci Fi Channel’s groundbreaking new series Sanctuary, which stars Stargate SG-1 icon Amanda Tapping as 157-year-old Dr. Helen Magnus, a brilliant scientist who specializes in the super spooky and ultra freaky. My kind of gal.
I received a couple of brief videos to share with readers, and you can find them after the jump. Both concern the distinctive filming technique of the show, an approach that relies on green screen technology to help create an unlimited number of surreal, imaginative, and deeply beautiful backdrops, in essence whatever the …read more

Getting My ‘Sanctuary’ On: Meet the Cast

Getting My ‘Sanctuary’ On: Meet the Cast

One of the highlights of this month in my life as a TV blogger was the day I received something very special from the Sci Fi Channel, an uncommonly beautiful gift I’d longed for for quite some time.
Yes, I’m talking about the two-hour series premiere of Sanctuary, starring and executive produced by Stargate powerhouse Amanda Tapping. And my birthday doesn’t even arrive for another few weeks!
If all of that exclamatory excitement isn’t a clear clue, I have high hopes for this science-fiction newcomer with a paranormal twist, and I pray I won’t be disappointed. The original one-hour drama …read more
