Well, the Season Three finale is almost upon us, My Boys fans.

This Tuesday, May 26, the TBS sitcom will close its current run with the episode “Spring Training.” Sure, it seems like the season just started a few weeks ago, but that’s because there were only nine episodes all together. Networks can get away with that kind of brevity on cable TV.

“Spring Training” finds PJ and her boys on a trip to Arizona, where she and Bobby can cover Major League Baseball’s spring training, Stephanie can chill out at a spa (that sounds so Stephanie, doesn’t it?), Kenny and Mike can track down a few autographs for their memorabilia, and Brendan can enjoy a post-college spring break.

Predictably, however, the gang’s plans don’t work out quite that smoothly. PJ ends up suffering from writer’s block, the girlfriend of Chicago Cubs player Mike Fontenot (guest starring as himself) takes a bit too much interest in Brendan, and poor lonely Andy relentlessly bugs everybody by calling them from back in Chicago.

And if that’s not enough for one little half-hour episode, a shocking secret about Ms. Relationship Diva, better known as Stephanie, is revealed. I hope that doesn’t mean the one that involves her and Kenny sleeping together because we the viewers already know all about that, unfortunately.

And here’s a sneak peek to go with those preview photos for “Friends of Friends,” tonight’s brand-new episode of My Boys.

As the title states, it’s all about friends, meaning Stephanie wanting PJ to hang out with her group of friends, and Kenny and Mike wanting the gang add some new friends to their tight-knit group.

Very nice! Not only was tonight’s (May 19) fresh episode of My Boys called “Friends of Friends” directed by Wonder Years star Fred Savage, but it guest stars another well-known comedy figure, the one and only Martin Mull (Roseanne).

The episode revolves around PJ and her new friend Emily, a friend of Stephanie’s that PJ meets when she goes to Stephanie’s birthday party. Somehow, meeting Emily eventually causes PJ and Bobby to hope that Emily and her boyfriend will become their “couple friend.”

Meanwhile, Kenny and Mike make a new friend of their own, a customer named Dr. Clayton (Mull). It’s soon revealed that the good doc is actually the terrible couples counselor that Andy and his wife couldn’t stand.

Finally, another plotline finds Brendan increasingly annoyed that his business partner isn’t doing his part to help run the club. Uh-oh. Since he’s got the money and Brendan doesn’t, I smell trouble ahead if that situation doesn’t get resolved.

It’s just a matter of weeks — two, to be exact — before the TBS comedy My Boys will air a finale and call it a third season. Tonight, however, the show presents another cleverly title episode, this one called “Facebook the Past.”

When PJ and her boys aren’t busy reviewing the points for and against Facebook, her main boy Bobby is busy discovering that she keeps in touch with every last single one of her ex-boyfriends.

Hmmm… Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I’m sure Bobby will be either mortified or conflicted and possibly a combination of both.

The sneak peek at this week’s new episode of My Boys titled “Madder of Degrees” follows the jump. It does a good job setting up the premise of the episode — sunshine before it’s time — by showing what PJ and her boys and her girl Stephanie are used to for that time of the year.

As a bonus, TBS also has a second video this week called Kiril’s Outrage. The clip focuses on a man named Kiril Vasakinov, who describes himself as “the most successful producer of Russian TV” at one point.

For reasons carefully demonstrated in the footage, Kiril is convinced TBS stole the idea for My Boys from his earlier Russian show A Woman & Her Wolves. Can you see the striking similarities? That Kiril’s nothing if not convincing. ;D

It’s all about the weather during “Madder of Degrees,” tonight’s (May 5) brand-new episode of TBS’ My Boys.

When Chicago experiences some uncommonly warm weather, the hotter temperatures cause PJ and her boys to get in the mood for a little romance and a few misadventures.

Preview images for the episode follow the jump, and they are definitely making me want to pull out my summer clothes and head for the beach or a nice shady park right this very moment. Fortunately, it won’t be long before many of us can do just that, so thanks, TBS, for getting everyone in the proper frame of mind now.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. The latest episode of TBS’ My Boys, tonight’s (April 28) “Carpe Burritoem,” finds Brendan agreeing to let PJ make all of his for him.

Episode: Decathlon: Part Deux
Original Air Date: April 21, 2009

This one is all about friendly competition … or not.

It’s time for PJ and her boys to participate in the annual games decathlon, a three-night event featuring ten board games and an entire month of booze for the winning team, paid for by the losing team. Current champs PJ and Kenny have previously partnered up against Brandon and Mike. Since Bobby wants to play this year, however, they quickly add him, forcing Brendan and Mike to reluctantly take Andy.

Before the games even officially begin, Team PJ starts talking crap, calling themselves Radiohead and the other team Coldplay. While a slightly confused Bobby asks what’s wrong with Coldplay, thoroughly befuddled Andy wants to know who the heck is Coldplay. According to Brandon, they’re the band whose songs all sound alike and — oh, yeah — the lead singer is a douche who named his kid Apple.

Just as Andy asks next who the heck is Radiohead, Stephanie arrives with great news: Cosmopolitan magazine has hired her to write the freelance article “What He’s Really Like When You’re Not Around.” To help with accuracy, she asks the guys to let her observe them during their downtime over the next couple of days.

The guys are reluctant at first because they think she made all of them but Bobby look like jerks in her hit book. Yet, Stephanie quickly turns on the charm — and bribes — and convinces them to participate in return for a free meal at any restaurant in town (creative Mike wants a steak burrito and an orange drink so he’ll have some left over for dinner). She even drops a comment that goes over everyone but Bobby’s head about how she’s excited to play Dian Fossey. As Bobby explains, that’s the woman who made a career out of observing apes’ behavior.

First up under the microscope are Kenny and Mike, who watch curling on TV and don’t say anything to each other for nearly an hour. When Stephanie prompts them to act more natural, they claim they’re doing what they normally do. When she insists again that they talk more, the following exchange occurs:

MIKE: Hey, uh, did you know that lobsters have clear blood?

KENNY: I didn’t know they had blood.

MIKE: They do, and it’s clear.

KENNY: Hmmm, I’ve learned something new today.

MIKE: You’re welcome.

Moving on…

So, the decathlon begins and things are going swell for Team PJ, until it’s time for Operation and PJ insists that Bobby remove the spareribs instead of the wishbone he prefers. Bobby obliges, and, of course, tension follows when he touches the side, allowing Team Brandon to win.

PJ notes the game is harder than it seems, but at least they’re still ahead, and Bobby replies he can pick his own pieces, but they could also relax since they’re just playing games. Back and forth, back and forth, and the next thing you know, Bobby is calling PJ overly competitive, and PJ is countering she’s no more competitive than the rest of the group, including him.

During a girl chat with Stephanie, PJ wonders why guys feel free to have opinions about women while they’re dating them but don’t care or have any before. Says Stephanie: because they’re comparing you to their ideal girl, which usually doesn’t involve women who have strong personalities. You know, like Jessica Alba and Heidi Klum (her examples, not mine).

Meanwhile, Stephanie’s irritated that she hasn’t learned anything observing Mike and Kenny, but she believes things will heat up when she visits Brandon, who she thinks has a sexier life. Is that so? Yeah, one that involves laying around on the couch in his PJs, watching cartoons and eating Cocoa Puffs out of the box … until Bobby arrives to play a video game.

Just when Stephanie thinks the guys could not get any duller, her high hopes for Andy — a family man with a stressful job who surely needs to blow off lots of steam when he’s alone — are completely dashed. Within moments of her arrival and his wife and kids’ departure, he promptly takes off his pants (the better to scratch his butt), grabs a snack, and then falls asleep sitting up on the couch, with plate in hand, while the TV plays a sports program.

No worries, though, because Stephanie spins the disappointingly boring behavior but good. The gist of her resulting article? When significant others aren’t around, guys simply power down like robots and do nothing, something women should consider doing themselves to detox, unwind, and experience complete Zen.

Back in decathlon world, PJ has a new attitude on the second night, thanks to Stephanie’s revelation that she never plays games with guys because they don’t know how to play just to have fun. The new supportive, non-competitive, good-sport, girls-just-wanna-have-fun PJ eventually annoys Bobby even more, however, especially when their team loses.

The end of the decathlon arrives and Team Brandon ties it up during the last round, requiring a tiebreaker to decide the ultimate championship winner. Each team has two minutes to answer the most questions, but PJ and Bobby disagree about which male tennis star won the most grand slam titles. PJ (correctly) thinks Pete Sampras, while Bobby believes Roger Federer, and clueless Kenny contributes Rod Laver.

PJ is being a team player, though, so she insists they go with Bobby’s wrong answer. Bad move because the couple’s first fight eventually costs them the decathlon when Team PJ fails to write down any answer at all while PJ, Bobby, and Kenny rehash the situation, which boils down to the fact that she made Bobby seem like a wuss in front of the others by telling him which piece to remove during Operation.

Final lesson? As I’m sure Kenny would agree, never compete on a team with a couple.

Board games rule on “Decathlon: Part Deux,” tonight’s fresh episode of the TBS comedy My Boys.

While participating in a yearly board-game competition, Bobby accuses PJ of being competitive, which we know isn’t going to sit well with her. Elsewhere, Stephanie makes the very bad decision to use the guys as research subjects for an article she’s writing.

Fans who really like the sitcom have a special treat in store tonight, too. Immediately after the episode airs, the network is hosting a live online chat with cast members (except for Jim Gaffigan, who plays Andy) and series creator and executive producer Betsy Thomas.
