Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily reports today, May 7, that sources have informed her the proposed Gossip Girl spinoff — originally tentatively titled Lily and then Valley Girls — is dead at The CW again.
Lily was supposed to focus on a young Lily van der Woodsen, played in her later years by Kelly Rutherford on Gossip Girl and by Brittany Snow on the prospective upcoming spinoff. But what about the fantastic Privileged?!
The title says it all. The CW has just announced its early renewal of most of the network’s current crop of shows: 90210, America’s Next Top Model, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Smallville, and Supernatural. Notably, 90210 is the only rookie in the bunch.

The first thing The CW wants fans to know about “Carnal Knowledge,” the February 2nd episode of Gossip Girl, is that Blair is in the mood for a little revenge, always a good thing.
To get it, she hatches a plan to bring down her teacher, Rachel (Laura Breckenridge). Meanwhile, Chuck wakes up in a hotel and realizes he can barely remember who he was with the night before, not to mention what happened. Enter Nate and Vanessa, who try to help him fill in the missing pieces of the mystery.

Whoa! I didn’t see this coming way back whenever, but ABC Family is making sure everybody knows about it now.
When the network’s freshman teen-pregnancy hit The Secret Life of the American Teenager went head-to-head with The CW’s upper-crust sophomore teen hit Gossip Girl on Monday, January 19, the newcomer ran circles around the more established show. And, when I say circles, I mean rings more than twice as big on some measures.

On Monday’s (January 12) episode of Gossip Girl called “Gone With the Will“:
Chuck, his brother Jack (Dexter’s Desmond Harrington), and Lily learn who will get what (or not, given the title) of deceased Bart Bass’ estate when the content of his will is revealed.
Also, Rufus searches for information about his child he recently learned about, which causes problems in his relationship with Lily and an even bigger potential problem when Dan puts two and two together and discovers their secret.

I just received a batch of still images from tonight’s brand-new episode of Gossip Girl called “In the Realm of the Basses.”
As just mentioned in my previous post, the plot goes like this:
Chuck’s uncle, Jack Bass (Desmond Harrington of Showtime’s Dexter), visits New York City to track down his missing nephew and help him recover after the recent ordeal of his father’s funeral.
Meanwhile, Blair becomes determined to convince a prestigious ladies’ club called Colony Club to admit her, and Jenny gets ready for a prolonged battle with Penelope at Constance Billard.

Well, there you have it. Only days after gazillions of entertainment news outlets and websites — including this one — reported a Gossip Girl spinoff is more or less definitely currently in the works at The CW comes word from the people who should know that the alleged news isn’t so.
According to TV Guide, the show’s executive producers and Warner Bros. Television all said in unison earlier today: “Contrary to the rumors and false reports breaking in the tabloids, there is no approved concept and/or confirmation of a Gossip Girl spin-off at this time.”

If anyone out there is craving more gossip, more girls, and more Gossip Girl, it seems The CW is in the process of trying to make your dream come true.
Variety reports the network, currently riding a wave of unprecedented success with several series targeting women, is in the early stages of putting together a spinoff of Gossip Girl, à la the Gossip Girl book series the show is based upon, which spawned the offshoot called The It Girl.

The first December episode of Gossip Girl, cleverly called “It’s a Wonderful Lie” after the classic Jimmy Stewart film, is all about deceit (what else?) and snowflakes:
When time for the annual Snowflake Ball rolls around, Blair and Chuck compete to find perfect dates.
Meanwhile, Nate, Jenny, and Vanessa encounter a complicated predicament that could possibly destroy both their friendships and romantic relationships.
And, finally, Serena must keep her emotions in check when Dan becomes the object of Aaron’s ex-girlfriend Lexi’s (Natalie Knepp) desire.
