Lifetime has a brand-new show coming up this summer called Drop Dead Diva, which is currently scheduled to premiere on Sunday, July 12, at 9pm ET, immediately before the network’s smash hit Army Wives.
An hourlong dramedy, the series focuses on beautiful, vapid wannabe model Deb (Brooke D’Orsay). After she dies in a car accident, Deb suddenly finds herself in front of Heaven’s gatekeeper Fred, who’s convinced she’s nothing more than a self-centered “zero.”
Deb protests, of course, and then tries to persuade Fred to return her to her shallow existence. Something goes wrong, however, and Deb winds up in the body …read more

Following on the heels of last year’s 2008–2009 newbie Rita Rocks, Lifetime is adding another original half-hour sitcom to its women-centric lineup. The latest comedy stars The View co-host Sherri Shepherd, and it’s accurately called Sherri.
According to Variety, Shepherd will play a single mother who also happens to be an actress and a paralegal. Shepherd has quite a bit of experience in the second role since she has a recurring gig on NBC’s critically acclaimed sitcom 30 Rock, where she portrays the wife of Tracy Morgan’s character. Here’s some excellent casting news for a series we haven’t even seen yet. Back in September, I wrote about Jada Pinkett Smith’s potential TNT original drama Time Heals, which has since become a reality. Now comes news that Alias and Big Shots alum Michael Vartan, a perennial fan favorite, has joined the cast of the series as a replacement for Jeffrey Nordling (Dirt, 24), who played the same role in the pilot.

I like the sound of this new show, folks.
Although originally developed for Fox, the hourlong dramedy Drop Dead Diva has just been picked up for twelve episodes by Lifetime instead. If you know anything about Fox’s shaky history keeping certain kinds of series going for more than a handful of episodes, then you probably understand why this development is a very, very good thing.

No, seriously — if you haven’t yet heard the big buzz about Fox’s latest TV series in the works called Bitches, let me enlighten you: The network is placing some of its money on the hope that viewers will want to watch a “quirky urban fairy tale,” featuring four actresses as friends in New York who “moon”-light as werewolves.
Really. I guess it’s good, then, that this prospective series is a dramedy because I can see so much fun being had with that awkward-sounding premise.

Now, here’s a great piece of breaking news for fans of Gilmore Girls still jonesing for the ultra popular series and/or its stars since the show ended back in 2007. Variety reports tonight that Gilmore #1, also known as fabulous actress Lauren Graham, has landed a deal to both helm and produce a currently untitled half-hour comedy on ABC. Woot!

It was only a matter of time. The relative success this season of 90210, The CW’s contemporary Beverly Hills, 90210 spinoff, has put big ideas into network executives’ heads. Now, they want to breathe new life into the latter show’s earlier spinoff Melrose Place, as soon as they can find a writer, that is.

It’s finally almost time for the premiere of Lifetime’s new original sitcom Rita Rocks.
The big launch day is tomorrow, October 20, at 8:30pm EST, after which the Nicole Sullivan sitcom will air fresh episodes every weeknight at the same time. Then, the following week, the series will settle into its regular 8:30pm, Tuesday-night time slot for the remainder of the first season’s thirteen episodes.
