Battlestar Galactica: The Unboxing of D’Anna
Well, was it as good for you as it was for me? Battlestar Galactica has been dragging a bit — okay, quite a bit — this season, so it sure was nice to see a familiar feisty face again. And, no, I don’t mean Starbuck, who had zero direct impact on Friday night’s “Hub” episode.
Instead, all appreciation and praise is reserved for the only Cylon who can outfox Number Six with even more style and conniving. Boxed at the end of last season for her obsession with the Final Five — she had an insatiable curiosity to know who they are, although that’s expressly forbidden by whoever gets to order Cylons around — D’Anna Biers (Lucy Lawless) is finally back, and she’s just as hard-edged as ever.
After not missing a beat while strangling her boxer Number One, aka Brother Cavil, beside the bathtub or birthing pool or whatever that thing of goo is they download in, D’Anna calmly informs President Laura Roslin — who’s almost equally obsessed with the Final Five — she has no intention of giving up any goods until she gets some goods of her own, namely her safety guaranteed. Since it seems the Resurrection Hub has been destroyed, the surviving humanoid Cylons have to be extra careful now that they supposedly can’t download their consciousness into new bodies.
Not even back a day, and already girlfriend is calling all of the shots! May she never get killed (she claims there’s only one of her left) because I never get tired of D’Anna. Unfortunately, however, everybody on the show is going away soon for an indeterminate spell because next Friday’s episode, “Revelations,” is an endpoint.
To be exact, it’s the last installment of the current run of ten episodes. The back half of BSG’s final twenty-episode season picks up again at a future date the Sci Fi Channel still hasn’t revealed. Whenever that time arrives, fans have just ten more original episodes to look forward to, and I hope D’Anna is in every single one.
