‘Army Wives’ Celebrates the Fourth of July

Army Wives - Fourth of July 2008 Screening/Walter Reed Army Medical Center

Friday was the Fourth of July in the United States, a time when Americans celebrate the birth of the United States. In honor of the holiday, Lifetime held a special advance red-carpet screening of the July 6 Army Wives episode “The Hero Returns.”

The event — co-sponsored by the USO, U.S. Army, and more than a dozen military aid organizations — took place at Washington, D.C.’s Walter Reed Army Medical Center to honor those serving in the military and their families.

Army Wives stars Brigid Brannagh (Pamela Moran) and Sally Pressman (Roxy LeBlanc) attended, along with the series’ executive producer Deborah Spera and Army Wives: The Unwritten Code of Military Marriage author Tanya Biank. Another special guest was Lee Woodruff, wife of ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff, who was almost killed in Iraq as a result of a 2006 roadside bomb explosion.

Lifetime also used the successful event as a launch for its new postcard drive encouraging fans of Army Wives to send postcards of support to the families of servicemen and women deployed overseas.

The cards will be distributed to military families throughout the year via the nonprofit organization Operation Homefront, which provides emergency assistance and moral to the troops, their families, and wounded military members when they return to the United States.
