Amber Tamblyn and Alyssa Milano Shows Picked Up
ABC recently announced the network is turning five potential shows into full-fledged series. We Grrl TV lovers are in luck because two of those new pickups star fan favorites Amber Tamblyn, of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Joan of Arcadia popularity, and Alyssa Milano, of Charmed and Who’s the Boss? fame.
Amber’s series is an hourlong crime-procedural dramedy called The Unusuals that sounds like it’s in the funny vein of USA Network’s Monk, for instance. Alyssa’s show, on the other hand, is a half-hour sitcom called Single with Parents. It co-stars veteran actor Beau Bridges, who also appeared numerous times on NBC’s My Name Is Earl, along with Alyssa. Bridges won a Best Guest Actor Emmy for his role as title character Earl’s father just last year.

The Unusuals
Premise: A comedic crime procedural set in a New York police precinct where cops need to have a twisted sense of humor, because every moment could be their last. Amber stars as Casey Schraeger, who started as an NYPD vice detective before unexpectedly being transferred to the homicide division. She quickly realizes that everyone in her new department has a unique sense of humor, in addition to dirty little secrets.

Premise: A sitcom revolving around Alyssa’s character Lou, a woman in her mid-30s with an intrusive and crazy blended family. Thrilled that her divorced parents are leading exciting lives, she still thinks both of them rely on her way too much. Her father needs her as a surrogate parent, and her mother depends on her around the clock as a shrink and confidante. Yet, Lou is determined to finally find a fulfilling life for herself. The series is based on the experiences of executive producer and writer Kristin Newman.
