90210: Series Premiere Details
We finally have titles and descriptions to go along with the date for the CW’s highly anticipated and widely hyped 90210 premiere. If you don’t want to know details, stop reading right now.
Okay. The series will open with a two-hour premiere consisting of two back-to-back episodes. As of now, only thirteen episodes have been ordered all together for the first season, and the first two will air on Tuesday, September 2, from 8pm–10pm EST.
The title of the night’s first episode is “We’re Not in Kansas Anymore,” followed by “The Jet Set.” Here’s what happens: The Wilson family arrives in Beverly Hills from Kansas to take care of dad Harry’s (Rob Estes) mother, bad-behaving former TV star Tabitha (Jessica Walter). Soon afterwards, teenagers Annie (Shenae Grimes) and Dixon (Tristan Wilds) begin at West Beverly Hills High School.
There, they encounter fellow students Ethan (Dustin Milligan), a popular and talented lacrosse player whom Annie met a few years ago; Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord), a bratty rich girl who cares most about her Sweet Sixteen party; Silver (Jessica Stroup), a free spirit who’ll eventually gossip about Annie on her blog; and Navid (Michael Steger), the smart editor of the school paper Blaze News.
Dramatic tension will come from a series of plotlines revolving around Annie, Dixon, and Naomi. In the case of Naomi, English teacher Ryan Matthews (Ryan Eggold — I hate when characters have the same name as whoever plays them) and guidance counselor Kelly Taylor (Special Guest Star Jennie Garth) rat her out to new principal Harry when she doesn’t complete a school assignment.
This raises issues with Harry about his ability, or inability, to keeps secrets about his past hidden. I wonder what that means. Could Harry possibly be Naomi’s daddy? …Just throwing it out there.
Annie causes some problems for her parents, too, when she hooks up with popular student Ty (guest star Adam Gregory) after she misses the opportunity to audition for the school musical, which is where special guest star Shannen Doherty comes in as the production’s director.
Ty, who I assume is also very rich in addition to very liked, uses his private jet to treat Annie to dinner and a trip to San Francisco. Unfortunately, she forgets to mention this little rendezvous to her parents, who it seems are not the neglectful kind and actually care what’s going on in their daughter’s life.
As for Dixon, he makes an immediate impression on his peers when his skills become evident on the lacrosse field. Since this is high school we’re talking about, though, the good comes with the bad of jealous teammates trying to sabotage his success.
Is it odd that of all the storylines mentioned, I’m most interested in Dixon’s? Let’s see if the situation remains that way.
