TNT Announces Summer 2009 Lineup

And it’s chock full of Grrl TV!
MONDAYS | June 8
9pm ET: The Closer will remain on Mondays at 9pm during its upcoming fifth season, which begins with the premiere on June 8.
10pm ET: Season Two of the legal drama Raising the Bar, costarring Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle) and Gloria Reuben (ER), follows on Mondays at 10pm.
TUESDAYS | June 16
10pm ET: Saving Grace moves to Tuesdays at 10pm for its third season opening on June 16.
9pm ET: Jada Pinkett Smith’s new nurse drama HawthoRNe, previously called Time Heals, will premiere the same night in its regular Season One time slot of Tuesdays at 9pm. Note the cute official spelling of the updated title.
8pm ET: Preceding both series at 8pm is the new reality show Wedding Day from reality-TV guru Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Apprentice). I have zero interest in the “let’s cry all together now while helping make a bride’s dreams come true” premise, but it will probably work for some female TV viewers.
WEDNESDAYS | July 15
9pm ET: The middle day of the week has no specific Grrl TV programming, but I include it here because, beginning on July 15, it will feature the second season of what is only one of the most fun and captivating shows around.
That would be the Timothy Hutton-led caper dramedy Leverage, of course, which costars lovely New Zealand-born English actress Gina Bellman (Jekyl, the UK version of Coupling) and my main girl Beth Riesgraf (My Name Is Earl). Love that Parker!
10pm ET: Immediately afterward at 10pm will be the new Dylan McDermott (The Practice) cop drama Dark Blue, costarring Supernatural and Cold Case — not to mention a ton of additional shows — alumna Nicki Aycox, yet another actress I’m always happy to see.
So, all in all, it looks like TNT will be scorching up the tube in the hotter months and providing some choice competition for other basic-cable networks like FX and USA.
Excellent. The more genuinely entertaining TV shows, the better.
