The Unusuals: Amber Tamblyn’s New Show Premieres

Amber Tamblyn/The UnusualsTonight is the night that ABC will finally debut The Unusuals, the new cop dramedy starring Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Joan of Arcadia’s Amber Tamblyn and created by Bones producer and writer Noah Hawley. The time to tune in is 10:02pm ET, immediately following the great lead-in Lost.

Tamblyn plays NYPD Detective Casey Shraeger, recently assigned to the Homicide unit after an earlier stint in Vice. Her first case is the investigation of her new partner Jason Walsh’s (Jeremy Renner, 28 Weeks Later) former partner’s death, which sounds uncomfortable, to say the least. Lucky for Shraeger — or maybe not? — her new division has lots of “unusual” colleagues to keep her alert and constantly thinking, “WTF!”

They include Lost’s Harold Perrineau as Detective Leo Banks, a paranoia sufferer who never removes his bulletproof vest; Entourage’s Adam Goldberg as Banks’ partner Detective Eric Delahoy, a man who’s determined to die by suicide on the job; The Dark Knight’s Monique Gabriela Curnen as rough-and-ready Detective Allison Beaumont; The Day the Earth Stood Still’s Josh Close as Beaumont’s secretive, religious partner Detective Henry Cole; and 40 Days and 40 NightsKai Lennox as Detective Eddie Alvarez, a cop and case thief who craves fame. Oz’s Terry Kinney rounds out the main cast as the boss Sergeant Harvey Brown, who wants to get rid of precinct corruption.

Two sneak peeks, a two-minute trailer, and a comprehensive video starter kit follow the jump to help get potential fans up to snuff. If this show doesn’t win me over, I’m going to be shocked — I’ve been waiting for it since the news spread about Tamblyn joining the pilot’s cast.
