In Plain Sight: Season Two Premiere ‘Gilted Lily’

The second season of USA Network’s In Plain Sight kicks off tonight, April 19, at 10pm ET with the premiere episode “Gilted Lily.” When we last saw New Mexico-based U.S. Marshal Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack), she had just survived a brutal kidnapping and killed a man in the process of escaping.
In Plain Sight’s sophomore run picks up almost exactly where we left off. Mary is now on obligatory administrative leave, pending a psychological evaluation to determine if she’s fit to return to active duty. In the meantime, Mary’s exacerbating mother Jinx (Lesley Ann Warren) and sister Brandi (Nichole Hiltz) remain at her house, which still looks like a tornado struck it. The disarray is thanks to that overzealous search the Feds delivered at the end of Season One.

Since Mary isn’t allowed to work her cases at the moment, her partner Marshall Mann (Frederick Weller) takes the lead when one of her witnesses turns up dead. Thanks to bossman Stan McQueen’s (Paul Ben-Victor) sympathetic nature, Mary does get permission to tag along during the investigation … as an observer only. But, we all know what that means: Mary will say what she has to say when she feels like saying it, just like always.

Good thing, too, because the case itself — which involves a biker, some loot, and events from 17 years ago — isn’t particularly interesting in my opinion. Hang around and don’t give up on the crime dramedy, though, because it gets increasingly more entertaining from here.
Continue below to watch a sneak peek at the episode, which includes a quickie look at new office assistant Eleanor (Holly Maples, Brothers & Sisters).
In Plain Sight will air Sundays on USA Network at 10pm ET.
