Finally Some Good News for ‘Privileged’

Thank you, most magnificent TV Gods!
I have been waiting and waiting and waiting to hear something positive about the future of the dramedy Privileged, The CW’s best freshman show by far, and the news finally dropped on Sunday, April 19.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, “the prospects for “Privileged” have improved, and the show is now considered for a possible midseason order.” Hip, hip hooray! Now we’re talking!
True, Privileged’s fellow newbie 90210 gets all the promotional push and fan attention. But, Privileged is such a superior, better written, and better acted show, it leaves that disappointment in the dust. In fact, 90210 has been so dreadful since its midseason return on March 31, I can barely sit through an entire episode, let alone attempt to write about it.
Yes, non-watchers, The CW’s glorified, unnecessary “re-imagination” of an okay long-ago teen drama has been that bad lately, and the series was never that good to begin with. It’s gone from craptastic to just plain old crap so quickly, it makes you wonder what the show runners are thinking/smoking.
Of course, if CW executives really wanted to put the network’s best foot forward, they’d renew Privileged for a full season and reduce the already renewed 90210 to a midseason replacement. We all know that won’t be happening, however — too much publicity, money, and drool already lavished on the cringe-inducing, overhyped inferior series — so I’ll take a midseason pickup for Privileged over nothing. Fingers crossed and breath duly held.
