Ratings Report: ‘Terminator’ and ‘Dollhouse’ Tie It Up
Now this is getting fairly interesting. There was still no new episode of CBS’ Ghost Whisperer last Friday, March 27, which only served to make the performance of Fox’s The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dollhouse all the more noticeable. Not only did my favorite series of the pair — Terminator, of course — experience a slight improvement in total viewers, but the Joss Whedon show had a downturn that put it in a virtual tie with the older show.
Do I sound snide if I say I don’t mind that outcome one bit? I hope not — I just happen to think Terminator is a far superior program at this point. And if Dollhouse really has the goods, what is it waiting for? The March 20 episode “Man on the Street” was riveting, as promised, but last Friday’s “Echoes” not nearly as much. In fact, I found the Topher-Adelle silliness, well, silly. Don’t know why I feel the exact opposite about the Laurence Dominic silliness, though — I enjoyed his nonsense quite a lot.
Terminator’s most recent installment, “To the Lighthouse,” pulled in 3.83 million total viewers, up from the show’s 3.65 million viewers the previous week, and an identical 1.3 rating and 5 share for adults aged 18–49. Dollhouse’s “Echoes,” on the other hand, managed 3.87 million viewers overall, down from the show’s 4.13 million viewers the week before, and a 1.3 rating and 4 share, also down from 1.5/5 for the previous episode.
So, Dollhouse bested Terminator a smidgen in total audience, but the second show did a tad better in the coveted 18–49 demographic. Moreover, while Terminator is enjoying a progressively improved performance over the last three weeks, Dollhouse has suffered a gradual decline in the last two weeks. I guess all of the announcements about how the Eliza Dushku drama would start to “rock the house” after the fifth episode (“Echoes” was Number 7) have fallen on more or less deaf ears.
