‘In the Motherhood’ and ‘Samantha Who?’ Team Up
Tonight at 8pm EST, ABC will introduce the TV-watching world to its latest sitcom, In the Motherhood, which stars Will & Grace’s Megan Mullally, Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Cheryl Hines, and Worst Week’s Jessica St. Clair.
The actresses play Rosemary, Jane, and Emily, three parents who are supposed to represent familiar mother-figure stereotypes. Based on the Web series of the same name that starred Leah Remini (The King of Queens), Jenny McCarthy (Two and a Half Men), and Chelsea Handler (Chelsea Lately), the show should have a respectable built-in audience. First up is the premiere episode “It Takes a Village Idiot” (love that title), during which we meet the women and learn all about what makes them tick.
Afterwards, at 8:30pm, Samantha Who? returns from a nearly four-month long hiatus with “My Best Friend’s Boyfriend.” Sam and Todd go on a double date with Andrea and her pro-basketball obsession Tony Dane (McKinley Freeman), only to learn something drastic about him that prompts Sam to intervene in an attempt to spare her best friend’s feelings.
The two comedies will make up an hourlong comedy block airing in Ugly Betty’s regular time slot until their respective spring finales on April 30. They’ll both also probably fit in quite well with the following female-oriented programming of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice.
