Unbelievable! My Fave ‘Privileged’ Actor Is Leaving
Entertainment Weekly just delivered the awful news: Privileged actor Michael Cassidy — better known as Megan Smith’s best friend/unrequited swooner Charlie Hogan — is leaving the series for both “creative and budgetary” reasons.
In other words, fans can assume there aren’t enough budgetary resources (aka money) left to keep him around, thus showrunners have made the creative decision to write his character out … for now.
According to the Ausiello Files, Cassidy’s last episode this season will be the show’s fifteenth, currently scheduled to air on January 20. The series returns from hiatus two weeks before, on January 6, and its rookie season has a total of eighteen episodes.
Good news, however, is that should Privileged get lucky and return for a second season, the door is open for Cassidy to return, as well, provided the budgetary outlook brightens. That means Charlie will at least be spared a bizarre, deadly ending, like getting struck by lightening or contracting a fatal case of the bubonic plague.
Yet, even if he never returns, viewers will have the satisfaction of seeing Cassidy’s Charlie get lucky himself before he leaves. Says series creator Rina Mimoun: “Charlie will be leaving town, but not until some hot and heavy kissing goes down.”
Hmmm. Hot and heavy kissing with whom? I certainly hope not Megan since I think he could do much better. We shall find out soon enough, though, and then I’ll have to move on to missing Cassidy/Charlie big time.
I hate when my favorite actors/characters leave a good series.
