‘Privileged’ Goes Haute

Joanna GarciaIs anybody getting excited for The CW’s new drama Privileged? The series was originally called Surviving the Filthy Rich (glad they changed the too-long name), and it stars former Reba regular Joanna Garcia as a live-in tutor for a pair of wealthy teenage twins.

The premise does nothing for me, but Joanna might have what it takes to pull this series off. She’s down-to-earth and spunky and comes across as intelligent, which should help ground her character Megan Smith and make it easier for fans to bond with her. It also doesn’t hurt that the network lured Oscar nominee Anne Archer to play the twins’ grandmother Laurel Limoges.

From what little I’ve seen, I think Privileged has the potential to be a fun show. Yet, how well it will handle the sizable competition from 90210 and Gossip Girl, its fellow youth-obsessed series at The CW, remains up in the air.

Privileged definitely doesn’t seem to be getting the same massive promotional push, which will probably hurt its chances of standing out from the crowd and sustaining young viewers’ interest. I hope I’m wrong, though.

Check out a trailer for the series after the jump to form you own opinion, and feel free to share. The video is called Haute.

Privileged premieres on Tuesday, September 9, at 9pm EST. Learn more about the series at the official website.
