‘Dollhouse’ Gets a New Prequel Pilot

Eliza Dushku/DollhouseIf you’re a fan of Joss Whedon’s TV shows but haven’t been keeping up with his work via the very vibrant community that frequents the very dedicated website Whedonesque, here’s why you should start.

While conducting a fake interview with himself led by fake questioner Rutherford D. Actualperson, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly creator announced to the world on June 22 that he’s going to film a new pilot episode for his upcoming Fox sci-fi drama Dollhouse.

The television mastermind explains that the original pilot was a tad too unclear and gloomy in places, something that network executives apparently pointed out to him but didn’t insist he address or fix. Nonetheless, Whedon has taken it upon himself to listen to the opinions of others.

As a result, Dollhouse will get a brand new first episode that will (hopefully) do a better job of setting up the subsequent episodes. As for the original pilot, it will now become the second episode of the series and will remain almost exactly the same, except for a couple of revised scenes.

And incidentally — if you’re going to Comic-Con this weekend and were holding your breath to see a trailer or clip or what have you for Dollhouse, you now have permission to breath because it’s not going to happen. Since Whedon & Company don’t plan to reshoot anything until after the much-buzzed-about annual event is over, attendees will just have to wait, like the rest of us lowly fans stuck at home.
