‘Lipstick Jungle’ Snags Icon Mary Tyler Moore
Talk about a casting coup! NBC announced today that when the sophomore dramedy Lipstick Jungle returns in the fall, it will have entertainment megastar Mary Tyler Moore onboard.
The actress, who still commands oodles of adoration today for her memorable roles on the classic sitcoms The Dick Van Dyke Show and Mary Tyler Moore, will appear in a multi-episode arc, beginning with the second-season premiere on Wednesday, September 24.
Moore’s role is as retired powerful businesswoman Joyce, the mother of Brooke Shields‘ character Wendy Healy. Wendy is the head of a major film studio, and she’ll start to contemplate the balance between her personal and professional lives as a result of her mother’s influence.
Says seven-time Emmy winner Moore: “I’m fortunate to have had a front row seat to the evolution of working women on television. It’s been great fun to watch the strong female characters of ‘Lipstick Jungle’ go at it week after week. I absolutely adore Brooke, and I’m delighted to be a part of a show which is so well written.”
Although Lipstick Jungle is currently mediocre television at best, I know someone else who’s going to be occupying a front-row seat when the series returns — me, just to get a better look at Moore. If anybody can enhance the show’s quality significantly, it would definitely be her.
