Robert Rodriguez Wants ‘Women in Chains!’
And so do I!
All kidding aside (kinda), Ain’t It Cool News broke the cool news earlier this week that famed film director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Spy Kids, The Faculty, From Dusk Till Dawn, Desperado) is set to produce and direct a prospective exploitation TV series about hardcore women in prison and the sadistic jail employees who make their lives a living hell. All he needs is a network to pick it up.
The show is currently called Women in Chains! — note the obligatory exclamation point for added dramatic effect — and would supposedly star Rodriguez’s fiancée, Charmed actress Rose McGowan.
All agree that a premium-cable network like HBO or Showtime would be the best home for such intense material, but more widely available basic cable or even broadcast TV would help it reach a larger potential audience … while simultaneously drastically limiting the amount of violence allowed.
I’ve already made a category for this project here at Grrl TV because, if nothing else, we love our prison shows and bad buff girls kicking butt. Or do you think this one would be overstretching the boundaries of television (we already know it will be doing that when it comes to good taste, which is part of the fun)?
